Come September 17, it will be `School Chalo’ for BJP leaders. The leaders will be celebrating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 67th birthday with children of primary schools across the state and carry out cleanliness drive in the premises.

“BJP leaders will fan out across the state and celebrate the PM’s birthday at one primary school each on September 17. They will spend the day interacting with children and giving tips about cleanliness,” state BJP general secretary Vijay Bahadur Pathak said on Monday.

Pathak said that it being a Sunday, the PM’s birthday could be celebrated the next day on September 18 if students do not find it convenient to come to school on holiday.

All BJP leaders in the state have been asked to adopt a government primary school and celebrate the PM’s birthday.  Leaders have been asked to fund all expenses from their pockets for renovation and development of primary schools besides organising the function.

Pathak said that around 1000 primary schools in the state have been selected by the BJP leaders for the function.

Though there is no official word on it, but it is believed that it being the PM’s birthday, District Magistrates and Basic Siksha Adhikari would join the BJP workers in celebrating the occasion in schools.

“It is purely a party programme. But if anyone wants to join us he is welcome,” Pathak said, who himself has adopted a primary school in native Azamgarh district. He said that leaders are very enthused about the programme and they have started preparating for it in the right earnest.

Pathak said that the fucntion will focus on cleanliness drive as from September 17 to October 2, the ‘Swachhta Abhiyan’ would be launched country wide. The Swachhta Mission will enter its third anniversary on October 2 when Modi had launched it with much fanfare in 2014.

Meanwhile, the UP government too has joined the campaign through its ‘Swachhta Hi Sewa Hai’ campaign from September 15 to October 2 and ensure 100 per cent participation of village pradhans, public representatives and masses.

Chief Secretary Rajiv Kumar issued directions for appointment of a nodal officer for the programme in each block. During the drive, special efforts would be made to reach out to families of freedom fighters and special events will be organised under their leadership.
