In a relief to owners of multi-storeyed apartments, power regulator UP State Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC)  has ruled that only buildings with four or more storeys without basement will be classified as multi-storeyed buildings.

The ruling was announced by the power regulator on Friday as per recommendation of a committee on review of power distribution code.

The regulator said that it was flooded with complaints from across the state that house owners opting for either vertical extension or buying a flat in multi-storeye apartment were facing difficulties in obtaining power connection.

As per recommendation of the committee, UPERC amended the Rs Power Distribution Code, 2005’ and as per this, a three-storeyed building was classified as multi-storeyed building and the house owner had to pay additional charges for installation of transformer and other charges for obtaining power connection.

The amendment in the code will give relief to all house owners and those living on fourth floor or above as they will not have to pay additional charges for powqer connection.

An UPERC official said that the amendment in Power Distribution Code will end exploitation of consumers by engineers of UP Power Corporation Limited.
