Farmer displays 69 varieties of turmeric at fair

A farmer from Chhattisgarh showed 69 varieties of turmeric he has grown in his field to the agriculture experts and officials of Punjab in a fair organised near Mohali, said in an official statement issued here on Monday.

Large number of farmers, agriculturists, and officials visited the fare on the second day of the Pragatisil Punjab Krishi Sammelan.

In the fare, Chamar Singh, a progressive farmer from Basna area of Mahasamund district described how he has been cultivating turmeric in his field. Besides he also displayed varieties of Simla Mirch, Jimi kandh and other horticulture items and provided information about his cultivation.

Agriculture department director of the Punjab government Dr.Mangal Singh took special interest and gathered detail of the method Chamar Singh has been practicing to grow the items.

The four-day Pragatisil Punjab Krishi Sammelan was inaugurated on Sunday.The prominent among those attended the inaugural ceremony include chief minister Raman Singh, Punjab chief minister Prakash Singh Badal, Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and UP CM Akhilesh Yadav.
