The foundation stone of Delhi Public School (DPS) Greater Ranchi was laid at the Mandro village in Ormanjhi, around 22 km from the city on Saturday. It initiates a revolution in the educational sector, especially in the State’s rural areas.

The DPS Society and Angika Development Society (ADS) joined hands for the venture — a day-cum-residential school under the CBSE board.

Jharkhand Governor Syed Ahmed, his Chhattisgarh counterpart Shekhar Dutt, Supreme Court judges, Speaker of the Jharkhand Assembly CP Singh, DPS Society chairman Ashok Chandra and DPS Greater Ranchi pro vice-chairman Rajesh Srivastava were all presentas the Governor laid the foundation stone after a cultural programme before curious villagers.

“DPS are spread across the country. Before Independence, we were uneducated and so were forced to be slaves, but receiving education was the main independence and the DPS Society has done well by bringing the school to this rural land,” said Ahmad.

He added, “A person who is educated will only be instrumental in changing the face of society. However, the schools should not educate children but also impart them with the traditional Indian culture for motivating them as good human beings.”

Dutt was also all praise, saying, “The destiny of the country lies on the human resources and schools have to develop them. Higher education can only be developed with appropriate education earlier for the overall growth of the child. The youth are the future of the world and their base should be well nurtured.”

Speaker CP Singh said, “The school will facilitate children of rural regions. Ranchi is developing as an educational hub and educationists here need to ensure that children also receive cultural knowledge, apart from the syllabus.”

Supreme Court Justice Ashok Ganguly appreciated the efforts of DPS Society and ADS, saying, “Education nurtures the inherent beauty of persons and makes his/her talent speak more than words.” Justice Aftab Alam and Justice (retired) BP Singh also spoke on the occasion.

The school will enroll children for Class I –XII from next year as construction will begin soon.
