Memories attached to the city have brought Jamshedpur-born Niharika Khan, the winner of the best costume at the Filmfare Awards 2012 for the Dirty Picture, back to her roots in Jamshedpur.

“Can you believe I am back in town after a gap of 15 years and I see the same people there when we use to come here as children. Every lane and house still looks so decked up and the people are so warm,”said Khan, who is on cloud nine over her spiralling career in Bollywood.

Former student of Sacred Heart Convent, Niharika with husband Ayub is revisiting the city after a gap of 15 years and recollecting memories of childhood she spent here. Today, the husband-wife duo along with Niharika’s mother Zareen Bhasin visited the Golmuri Club to share and relive the good old days. Ayub also happens to be the nephew of actor Dilip Kumar.

Niharika visited the Beldih Club and tasted the food there. “Clubs in Jamshedpur have been famous for their food and we loved it. I miss the taste of the city,” she added, the city girl who has already completed her upcoming film Chashme Baddoor directed by David Dhawan and is on with her next project with Rock On director Abhishek Kapoor.

Niharika Khan was born in Jamshedpur. She studied Human Resources in the US and then worked in public relations for some time. She also did a corporate job before taking up fashion jewellery full time. She launched her multi-brand store, Purple Porcupine in Bandra, Mumbai in 2003. Her friend, Sameer Sharma introduced her to Sudhir Mishra, who asked her to do styling for his period film, Khoya Khoya Chand. After this, there was no looking back and she got Rock On!! and also Karthik Calling Karthik. She became famous with Band Baaja Baaraat and Delhi Belly.

As for husband Ayub, who has visited the city for the first time, is impressed by the city’s calmness, the lush green golf grounds and club culture.

“It is a very different life from Mumbai. People here are so loving and I just loving every moment of it. We run all day there and it is so serene and calm here. People have a very disciplined life,” Ayub said.

Although he knows that two feature films were shot in the city including Udaan and Bubble Gum he feels more popularity and attention would spoil the beauty of the town. “If a town grows in a planned way it can become a model town like Jamshedpur,” said Ayub who is happy

playing Jogi Thakur in the daily soap Uttaran and has a huge fan following for the character he plays.
