Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) which came up with a new plan to keep the residential areas clean by initiating a drive of collection of household garbage from door-to-door is proving to be a boon for the civic body as A2Z waste management company, which has been enrolled for collecting wastes, is generating Rs 21 lakh monthly as a user charge.

RMC Chief Executive Officer Vinay Choubey said, “We receive an amount of Rs 70,000 per day as user charge by A2Z. The drive started about seven to eight months back and still people are not aware of the drive and discharge the garbage in the drains and on roads.”

Ranchi Municipal Corporation in order to keep the city clean and hygienic has entrusted a private company A2Z waste management to look after the work of cleanliness on April 1 last year.

The company responsible for collection of waste from the city to collect garbage from road side dumping sites; the agency is also collecting door to household waste with user charge of Rs 30 from the houses and Rs 10 from the Below Poverty Line families.

As revealed by the Public Relation Officer, Ashish of the A2Z waste management an average of 500 tonnes of waste is being processed everyday by the company for which it gets an amount of Rs 585 per ton.

Ashish said, “Presently we are charging people with Rs 30 per month for door-to-door garbage collection and we give RMC nearly Rs 60 to Rs 70 thousand per day as a user charge.”

Registered for thirty years by the civic body on contract basis the company has initiated door-to-door service of collection of garbage from August last year and is carrying on the drive in all the 55 ward of the city.

Besides this the company with manpower of nearly 1,500 has been quite successful in collecting wastes.

Meanwhile the civic body after a week-long cleanliness drive is now going to fine people with Rs 200 for throwing garbage on roads and Rs 5,000 for keeping building materials on road side.

However, the idea of paying a fee for having garbage collected from their home is not doing well with the people.

Ward No 14 commissioner Vijay Sahu said, “This new system of imposing fine from people is totally rubbish and the officials of the company are trying to hide their faults by this new system of introduction of fine.”
