The Tribal Art and Literature Festival kicked off at SCSTRTI, CRP Square here. Organised by Sikshasandhan, it was inaugurated by eminent linguist and former Director, Academy of Tribal Languages and Culture Prof Khageswar Mohapatra.

Speaking on the occasion, Mohapatra said that tribals should promote their literature in their own way. They should not follow others while creating literature, because they are unique.

The inaugural session was presided over by Sikshasandhan chairman and Utkal University English Professor Prof Jatindra Kumar Nayak.

Other speakers of the inaugural session were award winning translator Dr Sangram Jena, Odisha Munda Samaj president Sreedhar Singh and, Gajapati Zila Parishad Member Gunja Gomango. Sikshasandhan member secretary Anil Pradhan welcomed participants and talked about the objective of organising the programme.

He said that even though constitutional provisions are there, the Government has not done much for promoting language and culture of the tribals. It will be difficult for their languages to survive, unless they are used as medium of instruction in schools, he said and appealed all the participants to create literature in tribal languages.
