Wall to be built taking stakeholders’ trust

| | JAGATSINGHPUR | in Bhubaneswar

The district administration and Idco officials held a meeting with villagers of Dhinkia, Nuagaon and Gadakujanga gram panchayat’s under Erasama block over impasse affecting boundary wall construction on the land occupied for the now-abandoned Posco steel project.

The meeting held on Friday endorsed unanimously that the current borderline construction would be held in compatible method after consulting all stakeholders.

District collector Yamini Sarangi chaired the meeting attended by SP, Tehsildar, local MLA Prashant Muduli, Idco CGM Susant Mohanty, PRI members and leaders of seven organisations recognised as Posco supporters.

The meeting critically analysed the pre and post Posco atmosphere of the locality.

The Idco had acquired about 2,200 acres of Government land for Posco project on which a boundary wall is being constructed. But locals have opposed the construction alleging that they have not been paid due compensation.

Idco CGM Mohanty revealed that about 2,948 acres of land of the area would be kept in the Land Bank for industrial purposes. During land acquisition, a total of 1,118 encroachers had been compensated with a total payment of `17.32 crore. Similarly, 22,163 trees had been axed for which `2.68 crore given as compensation.

He said if any victim ignored is open to claim for compensation before the district administration, and after enquiries, they would be given compensation.

Nuagon Panchayat Sarpanch Bidyadhar Mallick said locals should be taken into confidence during the boundary wall construction. Gadakujanga Sarpanch Sampad Swain demanded that all betel vine losers be brought under the Industrial Displacement Laws and awarded compensation and ogher financial benefits.

The meeting raised many eyebrows as the district administration invited only pro-Posco people to the meeting and ignored anti-Posco ones.
