Two Harley Davidson bikes are an unusual entrant at the Indian Art Fair this year, says Ektaa Malik

The world of an artist has always been unlimited. Every surface and every space is a viable canvas, inviting them to spread and share their art. It was a perplexing sight at first. The two lone rangers looked completely out of place. The NSIC grounds, hosting the fourth edition of the Indian Art Fair, had two Harley davidson’s parked in full view.  Maybe some VIP chose to make a grand entry.

The recurring thought was replaced, as it turned out that the two monsters were actually displayed as art exhibits. Did you just do a double take? Well you were not the only one.

The bike duo consists of FLSTF Fat Boy and the XL 1200X Forty-Eight. The two have been customized to the point were they can actually be called piece pf art.

While the Fat Boy is big, strong and also soft, it is modelled as Big Twin-custom. Repainted with the effect to instill the turmoil feel, which is added by the distressed brown leather seat. The bold red and black paint job is eye-catching, and definitely makes a loud statement. The Bike is also equipped with custom chrome narrow beach handlebars swing arms, topped off with front forks.

Every Harley Bike is a unique piece. Elaborates Puneet Kriplani, marketing executive, Harley Davidson. “Harley is a statement, and may times the people who own it,  want to add to the bike. So they go for the art work on the Bike. We have our own range of designs, and if people want the bike to be modeled on their designs we indulge them.”

The XL 1200X Forty-Eight the second half of the exhibit, has been morphed into a Retro Machine, a personification of the spirit that’s exclusive to the Harley Davidson bike lifestyle.

The metallic green textured fuel tank, stands out, and the single seat monster bike makes a splash. The Harley Motto — live to ride. Ride to live, makes a big appearance on the bikes. The shield is prominent and it will be proudly displayed by Harley owners.

Art — it sure pushes boundaries. Till then, ride on, feel the wind in your hair, and stand out, the red and the green bikes will help.
