Shinichi, a three-year-old from Hiroshima, loved to ride his tricycle. On evening, he was riding near his house, when the A-bomb reduced Shinichi and his tricycle to bits.
His father felt laying a 3-year-old alone in a distant grave was too painful.
So he buried Shinichi with his tricycle keeping him company.
This is not fiction, but reality that happened to an actual Shinichi and his tricycle 60 years back in Hiroshima. “After 40 years, Shinichi’s father dug the grave, took out the tricycle, and donated it to Hiroshima Peace Memorial museum in Japan,” said Manaru Hitagachu, founder of the institution.
Hitagachu shared, “My father went for work that day, but never returned. I was in my mom’s womb when it happened. So I don’t recall what occurred.”
Telling us a friend’s story, Hitagachu remarked, “On August 9, my friend Misaki Ide’s mother went to work at the home of a relative who lived near Urakami Cathedral. After the bombing, Misaki visited his relative’s house in search of his mother, only to find her body at the cathedral and the rosary in their house.” He further added, “We have worked with several NGOs, to help children deal with the shock of the gruesome attack on the twin cities.”
An exhibition of posters, photos and books based on the Holocaust in Japan, were at the Book Therapy conference. And there were film screenings as well.
