It took him just five hours to transport everything from the streets of Istanbul to the ramp.
From traditional music to artistes from the region, JJ Valaya appeared to have almost everything that could give the walk a feel and look of Istanbul. And also help his guests be part of the collection that had highlighted the weaving techniques, craft and history of the region.
Loud, yet soothing sounds of darbuka and serene expressions on the face of artist Volga Tunca were the perfect welcome.
NSD performers, painted blue, represented Istanbul’s citizenry, placed on the ramp and elevated roofs that had been artificially created in the venue. A performance by oriental belly dancer Ekaterina added to the drama and entertainment. And amidst all this, appeared the models, sashaying, swaying like swans in their all-white ensemble. That was the beginning of a grand show.
The designer chose his male friends, Gudda, Suneet Verma, Navtej Johar and Navin Ansal to display his men’s wear.
The showstopper was Kangna Ranaut, dressed in a white chikankari dress, covered by a jacket.
According to Valaya, “her outfit was a reminiscence of an era that had inspired us.”
The drama, which the designer is famous for, was perfect for bringing curtains down on the five-day long fashion extravaganza. The first four days were pretty usual for the regular visitors.
The last ones were packed with fun and a few surprises.
Nargis Fakhri, who did honours for designer Sakshi Pradhan was the first of these. Followed by father-daughter duo Govinda-Narmmada. Surprisingly, it was Govinda and not Nargis who caused a stampede like situation. Extra security was called to disperse the crowd. And the grand show was concluded by Kangna Ranaut looking resplendent in her heavy kundan jewellery.
