Five dead in shooting at Korean spa in US

Washington: Five persons, including two women, were killed in a shooting incident at a Korean spa outside Atlanta, police said on Wednesday. Police said they do not yet have a motive for the murder- suicide at the Su Jung Health Spa in Norcross, Georgia, on Tuesday. They said a man entered the Atlanta spa and shot four persons to death before turning the gun on himself.

Mubarak trial enters last day before verdict

Cairo: Egypt on Wednesday awaited with bated-breath the fate of their former ruler, with the ousted President Hosni Mubarak’s trial having been completed and the presiding judge expected to set a date for the verdict. The six-month-old trial entered its final day on Wednesday with judge Ahmed Refaat saying he had heard both the prosecution and defence.

Contempt hearing against Gilani adjourned till Feb 28

Islamabad: Pakistan’s Supreme Court on Wednesday adjourned the contempt of court case against Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani till February 28 after admitting evidence and recording the statement of the prosecutor. A seven-judge bench headed by Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk recorded the statement of Attorney General Anwar-ul-Haq, who has been asked to act as prosecutor for the proceedings against Gilani.

Strauss-Kahn questioned for second day

Lille: Former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn was questioned by French Police for a second day on Wednesday over allegations that he took part in sex parties organised by a corrupt vice ring. He was questioned all day then magistrates prolonged his detention for 24 hours. The interrogation could be extended again, sources said.

Thai detention of Iranian bomb suspect extended

Bangkok: A Thai court on Wednesday allowed police to continue to detain one of five Iranian suspects in an alleged terror plot that was exposed by an accidental blast in a residential Bangkok neighbourhood. Police Maj Gen Piya Uthayo said Mohammad Kharzei, 42, will be held at a Bangkok prison for at least 12 more days.

Maldives: govt panel to probe coup charges

Colombo: Maldives' new regime has appointed a panel to probe charges of coup against it following President Mohammed Nasheed's ouster, Male's envoy here said on Wednesday, while accusing Nasheed's MDP of reneging on an India-brokered deal to resolve the crisis.

Three Georgian soldiers killed in Afghanistan

Tbilisi: Three Georgian soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan while serving alongside NATO-led forces fighting the Taliban, the defence ministry in Tbilisi said on Wednesday.
