Two minor boys were killed on Monday when an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Maoists to target security forces exploded in Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh.
The incident took place when Laxman Oyam (13) and Boti Oyam (11) were plucking tendu leaves near Odsapara village, Bijapur Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Yadav said.
The two stepped on the IED, triggering the explosion. They died on the spot.
A couple of days ago, a 25-year-old woman was killed in an IED explosion while plucking tendu leaves near Mallur village in the district. Maoists often plant IEDs along roads, dirt tracks and in forests to target security personnel.
