Inter-faith activist Kamala Kanta Dash has been appointed as an Ambassador by the Parliament of the World’s Religions (PWR) for two years, 2013-2015. He is the first Odia to join the prestigious global platform.
Dash will now represent the PWR to promote its mission to facilitate interreligious dialogue, establish global justice and peace and practise sustainable development.
Dash is currently a doctoral researcher at the Monash University in issues like policymaking, community engagement, policing, multiculturalism and interfaith. As PWR ambassador, he will engage with regional and global faiths, civil society, policy and business leaders with a focus on Australia and India.
In India, he is associated with the Ravenshaw School of International Studies (RSIS), Cuttack and the Centre for International Studies and Development (CSIRD), Kolkata and has recently founded INSAAN International Foundation in Delhi to promote communal harmony and socioeconomic inclusion.
last month, Dash and his team represented the Parliament of the World’s Religions at the second Model Global Parliament at the Victorian Parliament and tabled a motion to adopt the Charter for Compassion.
Dash comes from a poor Vashnavite Brahmin family of Brahmapur village of Garadpur gram panchayat of Kendrapada district. His father Anam Charan Dash played a key role in shaping his curiosity in religion and philosophy. He is a senior editor of web portal Odisha Diary.
