Workplace mobbing drives news anchor to consume poison

A 31-year-old female anchor, working with a private news channel, on Sunday allegedly tried to commit suicide by consuming poison in her office premises in Noida’s Sector 85.

The victim was admitted to the ICU of Kailash Hospital where her condition is stated to be stable. However, she had posted a suicide note on her Facebook wall, blaming workplace mobbing for this extreme step.According to police, the victim — Tanu Sharma — joined the news channel a few months back and had been facing some disagreements with the management for which she had also threatened them.

On the morning of the incident, the management informed police that Tanu had been depressed and may take the extreme step. Following the complaint, police reached her house immediately but could not find her there.“When we went to the victim’s house, we got a call from the news channel that Tanu had consumed poison in the office premises and has been admitted to Kailash Hospital,” said a senior police official.

Meanwhile, spokesperson of the hospital, VB Joshi said that Tanu was admitted to the hospital at 11.50 am. “She was disoriented due to a heavy dose of an as yet-unidentified toxin. We have pumped her stomach (gastric lavage) and she is currently stable but under observation in the ICU,” Joshi said.

The victim has registered a complaint under Sections 306, 511 and 504 of IPC at Noida Phase 2 police station.Sources claimed that Tanu was under acute tension with the management over some issues. Before taking the extreme step, she also wrote a suicide note accusing the channel’s top brass. In the suicide note, she said what had happened to her was not good. She had also named some top officials for betrayal and conspiracy.
