The Kerala Police on Sunday arrested a 24-year-old man on the charge of raping his 48-year-old mother. According to the complaint the mother herself lodged with the police, the youth had raped her several times in the recent past under the influence of alcohol and other intoxicants. The incident took place at Chakkampuzha near Pala in Kerala's Kottayam district.
A Pala police team headed by sub Inspector KP Thomson took the youth into custody on Saturday night on the basis of the mother's complaint and his arrest was recorded on Sunday morning. The police said they were not revealing the name of the youth in order to keep the identity of the mother concealed.
According to the mother, her son used to rape her brutally and torture her after coming home fully intoxicated. She said he had raped her several times in the past one week. "I tried all kinds of pleadings with him. I told him repeatedly that I was his mother who carried him inside me for ten months and delivered him. All such prayers proved useless," she said.
"It seemed that he was in no state of mind to listen to what I was saying. I even tried running away from the house as the experience had become unbearable but he followed me to the vacant plot near the house and did this to me. He dragged me back home and acted cruelly towards me again," the mother said through sobs.
She said the son had first assaulted her sexually in May after beating her up brutally. According to Thomson, Sub Inspector of Police, the youth had admitted that he had committed the crime. "He had confessed to his crime. Apart from that, we have also got several evidences," the police official said.
The mother also said that she had approached the police with the complaint after the experience became unbearable and as her own husband and relatives were reluctant to help her. She said she had told her husband about the brutality of their son, but his answer was that she should try subjecting herself to the son.
According to the police, the repulsive brutality had been happening for some time now. "There used to be ruckus in their house over this. It had also made the neighbours unhappy," said a police official. The head of the family is a casual worker and is said to be regular drinker. The accused youth used to work at a hotel in Pala town.
Meanwhile, two men were arrested for trying to rape a six-year-old girl at a hospital in Pala. Those arrested were identified as Mathai Mathew and Joshi Kuruvila, both belonging to Pala. People at the hospital said that the two had come to the pediatric ward of the Taluk Hospital, Pala on Saturday evening and tried to sexually assault the child, who was undergoing treatment.
When the women present in the pediatric ward tried to question the men, they misbehaved with them too. Following this, more people intervened, apprehended the duo and handed them over to the police.
