TMC goons allegedly rape, murder CPM worker's wife

In a blood-curdling incident of rape and murder a woman was gang-raped, paraded naked in an entire village before being brutally beaten up, murdered and hanged from the ceiling of her house by alleged Trinamool Congress miscreants. Her fault: she failed to pay up Rs 12 lakh that was demanded from her as a penalty for being the wife of a CPI(M) worker.

The incident took place in broad daylight on Sunday under Kanthi police station in East Midnapore district even as the terrified villagers failed to muster enough courage to protest, sources said.

While there were conflicting reports about the incident an eyewitness said the woman was asked either to pay up Rs 12 lakh or produce her husband who had fled his home after the left Front lost the 2011 Assembly elections.

As the woman failed to pay the exorbitant amount “she was first raped by a gang of 12 people. Then they paraded her naked in the village before beating her black and blue. When she died they hanged her from the ceiling of her house to pass it off as a suicide case.”

Superintendant of Police Sukesh Jain quoted from the statement made by the victim’s brother-in-law stating “that person said that his sister-in-law had committed suicide.” However, the victim’s husband filed an FIR from his hideout holding Trinamool activists responsible for the rape and murder.

Reacting sharply to the incident, State BJP president Rahul Sinha said, “We demand that the culprits must be brought to book as it is immaterial as to who belongs to which party. Bengal has slipped into a darkness which is darker than night and there is an express need to do something about this.”

The climbing graph of rape-and-murder in Bengal has placed the State on top of the list in the past a few years.

Trinamool MlA Dibyendu Adhikari, however, refuted the charges being “leveled against my party men” saying “the law will take its own course as per the books and the Constitution. This is a medico-legal case and let the reports come out before we jump to any conclusion. The CPI(M) is making this cock and bull story to come back to the political centrestage.”
