Considering significant population of Saini community in Haridwar Parliamentary Constituency, Samajwadi Party (SP) has fielded Anita Saini as its candidate from Haridwar lok Sabha seat. Apart from Saini community, the SP is banking on traditional Muslim and other backward castes (OBC) votes which are around 10 out of 16 lakh total votes in the constituency. Will this social equations pay for SP, is something that remains to be seen.

Moreover, the party is also expecting favourable results in Nainital and Almora lok Sabha seats where Avtar Singh and Bhagwati Prasad Trikot are in fray.

As the polling date is inching nearer, in comparison to other political parties like INC, BJP, BSP, and others, the SP is harping on its winning caste combination in Haridwar Parliamentary constituency and if the equation works in its favour and the Muslim supports the party, then SP’s candidate would win the election. Each political parties are running after 10 out of 16 lakh voters in the constituency votes and they are trying best to polarise the vote bank.

However, there were dissident among the party workers over the candidature of Anita Saini from Haridwar seat as she was earlier in BJP, the party has shown faith on her and she was given ticket because of considering significant population of Saini community in the constituency.State SP president Dr Satyanarayan Sachan said that “Saini communities, Muslims and OBCs are the real king maker in Haridwar constituency. With nearly 2.75 lakh population of Saini community, around three lakh Muslim population, 4.5 lakh population of OBCs including Gujar, Kashyap and others, these communities play decisive role in the lok Sabha election. SP has consolidated it vote bank among Saini community and OBCs. Besides it, they have a support of sizeable Muslims in the constituency, he added.

However, the party is committed to enhance the living standard of the common man of the constituency by making their life more comfortable by providing him better avenues of employment, shelter, food, education, medical-aid and other civic amenities.
