'Indian philosophy prevents climate change

Sunday, 07 September 2014 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

Housing and Environment Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya has said that climate change has become a major challenge for the entire world.

Inaugurating a two-day national seminar “Environment, Climate Change and Indian Philosophy: From Crisis to Solution” organised by Environmental Planning and Coordination Organisation (EPCO) here on Saturday , Vijayvargiya said that India’s role would be important in dealing with the challenge of climate change.

He added that climate was undergoing rapid changes as a result of wanton and indiscriminate exploitation of nature for vested interests by many countries. However, he claimed, India was a country which never discriminated against nature. Nature has been regarded as a part of Indian culture and it treated trees as holy as land.

He lamented that even wells were losing their existence due to fast depleting water level.

Vijayvargiya said that discussions were being held on effects of climate changes throughout the world. In India, farmers were bearing the brunt of climate changes while 60 per cent farmers were doing farming through natural processes. Under such circumstances detailed discussions should be held on climate changes.

Transport Misnister Bhupendra Singh, who participated the seminar, said that works in Science and Technology sector were being undertaken constantly in the State. Entire world has accepted Indian philosophy. In Science sector, other countries will have to adopt Indian Philosophy. Singh said that challenges of climate changes can be faced only with the help of Indian philosophy. Principal Secretary Urban Administration and Development SN Mishra said effects and results of climate changes had come to the fore before all. Not only educated ones, climate change has also become a matter of concern for common people. He said that time has come now to ponder over and chalk out strategies to deal with this matter.

On the second day, on Sunday, discussions will be held with representatives of bilateral and multi-lateral international fiscal bodies for mobilising financial resources on proposals of State Climate Change Action Plan.

Chhattisgarh’s former Agriculture minister Chandrashekhar Sahu and MlA Vishwas Sarang were present on the occasion.
