Max: First hospital in U'khand to receive NABH accreditation

Max Super Speciality Hospital of Dehradun became the first hospital in Uttarakhand to get the prestigious NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare) accreditation. In a ceremony organised to mark the occasion on Wednesday the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NABH, Dr KK Kalra gave the certification of accreditation to the Deputy Managing Director, Max Health Care, Rajit Mehta and State Health Minister Surendra Singh Negi.

NABH is a constituent board of Quality Council of India, set up to establish and operate accreditation and allied programs for healthcare organisations. The board is structured to cater to the desired needs of the patients and to set benchmarks for the progress of health industry in the country.

Congratulating the Max hospital for getting the accreditation, Heath Minister Surendra Singh Negi said that the hospital should now act as role model for other hospitals of the state. He said that all the citizens have a right at the standard Health Services.  Negi said that the government hospitals of the state should also try to get the accreditation of NABH.

 Explaining the process of getting the accreditation the NABH CEO Dr Kalra said the purpose of the exercise is to inculcate a culture of safety practices in the hospitals. He said that many patients get hospital acquired infections during hopitilisation and are affected by the errors committed by the hospital staff. Kalra said that NABH awards the accreditation after assessing the hospital on 636 standards. He informed that 230 hospitals in the country are awarded this accreditation and 1000 hospitals have applied for it. The NABH CEO said that his organization also provides Primary level pre accreditation to the hospitals.

Expressing happiness at being the first hospital in the state to be awarded the NABH accreditation the Deputy Managing Director, Max Healthcare Rajit Mehta said that Max Super Specialty Hospital, Dehradun has always been ahead in practicing good patient care protocols which have resulted in improved clinical outcomes. “We are delighted with this respected recognition and will continue to live up to the standards set by NABH” he said. Mehta said that Max healthcare has always been proactive in its Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) and the hospital is running a free OPD in the Ukhimath area of Rudraprayag district. The Director of hospital Dr A K Singh said that every member of the hospital is responsible for this achievement. He said NABH accreditation would soon become compulsory for all the hospital.

Director Health and Family Welfare  Dr l K Gusain, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dehradun, Dr B S Jangpangi,  Senior  Vice President  Medical Quality Max Healthcare Dr Aarti Verma and General Manager (GM) Operations of Max hospital  Gaurav Rekhi  were also present on the occasion.
