haridwar dalit girl’s murder: cbi files case

New Delhi: A year after the alleged rape and murder of a 13-year-old Dalit girl in Haridwar, CBI on Wednesday registered a case against unknown persons at the request of the Uttarakhand Government. CBI spokesperson Kanchan Prasad said that the case was registered under Sections 376-D (Gangrape), 302 (Murder), 201 (Destruction of Evidence) of the Indian Penal Code and sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. The case has been filed against unknown persons at the request of the Government of Uttarakhand and further notification from the Government of India, the official said.

 

cic search panel to meet tomorrow

New Delhi: The search committee headed by Cabinet Secretary for the selection of the Chief Information Commissioner and Information Commissioners for the Central Information Commission is likely to meet on Friday. The Committee is likely to shortlist candidates from 203 applicants for the post of the Chief Information Commissioner and 553 applicants for the post of Information Commissioners at the transparency panel. last month, Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth sought a meeting of search committee which also comprises of Additional Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Secretary (Personnel), Home Secretary, Secretary Department of Expenditure and Professor Ramesh Chand, Director National Centre for Agriculture Economics and Policy.

 

‘WON’T AllOW ANTI-INDIA ACTIVITIES FROM BHUTAN’

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Wednesday called on Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and discussed important bilateral issues including security and hydro power projects. During the meeting, Tobgay assured India that his Government will not allow any anti-India activities from its soil, official sources said.

 

Cosmic Negotiator dir held for forgery

New Delhi: The CBI on Wednesday arrested Director of Kolkata-based chit fund company Cosmic Negotiator, Subhendu Deb Choudhary for cheating and criminal breach of trust. The arrested accused had allegedly duped several investors from Tripura and the company vanished after collecting huge funds from the Tripura. The case was referred to the CBI for investigation by the Tripura Government, a CBI spokesperson said.

 

SC finds 2 ways to end Assam border row

New Delhi: Supreme Court on Wednesday said the half century old border dispute between Assam and Nagaland could be resolved either by deciding the 1988 law suit filed by Assam or by referring the matter for arbitration. "There are only two legal ways of dealing it. One is that we should decide the suit or the other is that it be referred for arbitration," a three-judge bench headed by Justice TS Thakur said.
