Fire safety in B’swar hospitals: panel formed

Baleswar: The Baleswar district Collector on Wednesday formed a committee to look into the fire safety measures adopted by the Government hospitals and private nursing homes in the district. The six-member committee includes the Sadar Tehsildar, the nodal officer, the local fire officer and representative of electricity department, among others.    

Sharmishtha, Shakti to get Muduli Kabita award

Baleswar: Bargarh-based poet Sharmistha Sahu and poet Shakti Mohanty of Jagatsinghpur would get the Kabi Basanta Muduli Kabita Award for 2016. Sharmistha has three poetry collections Shukha Sabu, Pabana ra Pacheri andJhada Pakhira Geeta. Shakti has written poetry collections like Puni Barsha, laghuchapa, Seemahina and Ithara Boli Kichhi Nahin. They would get the awards at the Jayadev Bhavan in Bhubaneswar in November at the 28th Kabi Basanta Muduli Smruti Samaroha, informed Kabi Basanta Muduli Smruti Sansad secretary Krushna Kumar Mohanty. The Sansad has been giving this award for last 25 years. The poets, aged between 40 and 45, get the award.  

AWC buildings inaugurated in Subarnapur

Sonepur: Birmaharajpur MlA Padmanabha Behera inaugurated nine Anganwadi Centre (AWC) buildings under Ullunda block in Subarnapur district in the presence of DM and Collector Dasharathi Satapathy, the Sub Collector, the BDO, the DI and PRO on Monday. Bhudobar AWC building, Puturpali, Jharbahali, Mankadbahal and Chadeipank AWC buildings in the district were also inaugurated on the same day by the MlA. locals said the Government officials should supervise the buildings properly.

Gutkha packing machines seized in B’pur

Brahmapur: The Brahmapur town police conducted a raid at Gudapalli and Baunsia Palli on Wednesday and seized four Gutkha packing machines and Gutkha packets. After getting information, the police also conducted raids at other places of the city. locals had alleged that though Gutkha is banned, police were not taking any action against Gutkha traders. Though police have been conducting raids on various Gutkha manufacturing units in the city and on outskirts, Gutkha selling is yet to be checked, people allege.
