Nearly 90 years after Shaheed-e-Aazam Bhagat Singh had used .32-mm Colt automatic pistol to kill the British Assistant Superintendent of Police John Saunders in 1928, it is on display at a museum at his native village in Ferozepur district.
The pistol, after recovering it from the Border Security Force (BSF), was displayed on Sunday at Hussainiwala museum, that houses a memorial to the freedom fighter trio of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, where they were cremated.
The pistol, which was with the BSF till now in its Indore unit, has been displayed in a special glass showcase on a stand made of steel with a photograph of Bhagat Singh.
The last bullet fired from the .32-mm Colt automatic pistol killed British assistant superintendent of police John Saunders on December 17, 1928.
The pistol was in the custody of Punjab Police Academy at Phillaur till October 1969 after which it had been issued to Central School for Weapons and Tactics (CSWT) BSF Indore, where it was kept till it was transferred to BSF in April 2017 to be displayed in the Hussainiwala BSF Museum.
The pistol was found to be of Bhagat Singh’s only after the black paint on it was removed and its serial number was matched with the records. Before reaching Hussainiwala, the pistol has travelled from lahore to Phillaur, Indore, and Jalandhar.
