CM plans for mega Ardh Kumbh in 2019

Thursday, 28 September 2017 | PNS | Lucknow

The 2019 Ardh Kumbh in Allahabad under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is being designed as a ‘historic and unique event’.

After allocating an additional Rs 510 crores for Kumbh preparations, Yogi has also made a series of visits to Allahabad and held meetings in lucknow to prepare for the mega event. He has also asked officials to design an emblem and a slogan for the event. For the first time, Yogi has decided to set up a Prayagraj Mela Development Authority that would work as a nodal agency for all preparations for the event.

The state government has released Rs 290 crores to upgrade Bamrauli airport before the Kumbh Mela takes off. A civil airport is being built next to Bamrauli airport, as the latter is essentially an Air Force station. The new airport will be equipped to handle all kinds of aircrafts including Boeing 737.

The state government is already preparing to launch state air services connecting cities like lucknow with Allahabad, Varanasi and Agra. Besides, a bird sanctuary is also being planned in Allahabad.

UP Health minister Siddhartha Nath Singh, who is also an MlA from Allahabad, said that the state government’s request to Railways to come up with a Rail Over Bridge (ROB) and flyover connecting Begum Bazaar locality with the airport has also been approved. He said that Railways has sanctioned Rs 110 crore for the two projects and the ROB and flyover would be a four-lane road till the new airport.

A government spokesman said that the Chief Minister wanted permanence for the work done for Kumbh Mela.

“The CM made it clear that infrastructural facilities being set up for the event must last beyond the Mela.  Instead of bamboo poles used for power distribution at the Mela, we will put up metal poles so that they remain even after the event was over. We will also be trying to make pontoon bridges last beyond the event,” said the spokesman

These permanent works will cost the state government Rs 2500 crores and will be completed by October 2018. Yogi Adityanath has also ordered that the upgradation and beautification of Shringverpur, a place of religious importance for which Rs 32 crore has been allotted.

Shringverpur is located about  45 km from Allahabad on lucknow road and as per popular belief, it was at this place that lord Rama crossed Ganges river on his way to exile along with Sita and lakshman.

In a significant move, the CM has ordered that facilities at bus stations, railway stations and hospitals be upgraded to deal with the rush at the Mela. To decentralize the rush, bus stations will be set up on the outskirts of the city this time. During the 2013 Kumbh Mela, a stampede at Prayag railway station had left 42 dead and over a 100 injured and therefore all preparations were being made to check recurrence of any such tragedy.
