The Haridwar District Magistrate Deepak Rawat met office bearers of the Gyan Godri organisation who have been staging a demonstration in support of their demand for construction of the Gyan Godri gurudwara here. The district magistrate visited the demonstrators at Premnagar ghat. Two groups from the Sikh community were present in front of the district magistrate. While one of the groups has continued to insist that the Gyan Godri gurudwara should be constructed at Har-ki-Paidi, the other group is demanding land at Premnagar ghat for construction of the said gurudwara.
To ascertain the claim of one of the groups about the gurudwara being originally located at Har-ki-Paidi, the district magistrate visited Har-ki-Paidi to check the ground situation and documents to get an idea of the situation at the time in question. According to officials, in some old documents in the scouts and guides office here, it was stated that the said gurudwara had been at the site. From here, the district magistrate also went to the Haridwar municipal corporation office where he checked the land documents dating back to 1935. The documents also ascertained the location of the gurudwara. It was stated that based on the documents available, the district magistrate will submit his report to the committee formed by the state administration regarding the construction of the Gyan Godri gurudwara.
