Prez unveils Jhalkari Bai's statue

President Ramnath Kovind unveiled the statue of Jhalkari Bai, Rani lakshmi Bai’s assistant at Guru Tegh Bahadur Complex.

 Those present on the occasion were Governor Om Prakash Kohli, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, First lady Savita Kovind, Urban Development Minister Maya Singh, BMC Mayor Alok Sharma, Sadhana Singh Chouhan, other public representatives and senior officers.

It may be noted that Jhalkari Bai was born in a poor Kori family. She joined Rani lakshmi Bai’s army like an ordinary soldier. later she was made Rani lakshmi Bai’s special advisor. Jhalkari Bai was a participant in all major decisions of Rani lakshmi Bai and laid down her life during the freedom struggle as her assistant.

Earlier in the day, Kovind was accorded fond welcome on his maiden visit to the state. Governor Omprakash Kohli and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan welcomed the President at the airport with bouquets. CM Chouhan’s wife Sadhana Singh Chouhan welcomed the President’s wife Savita Kovind with a bouquet.

Vidhan Sabha Speaker Sitasaran Sharma, Public Relations Minister Narottam Mishra, Home Minister Bhupendra Singh, Revenue Minister Umashankar Gupta, Urban Development and Housing Minister Maya Singh, Women and Child Development Minister Archana Chitnis, School Education Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah, Energy Minister Paras Jain, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Technical Education Deepak Joshi and MP Alok Sanjar and Mayor Alok Sharma also greeted the President on the occasion.

Chief Secretary BP Singh, Director General of Police RK Shukla, Deputy Inspector General of Police SK Singh, Collector Sudam Khade and a large number of elite citizens were also present.
