SAD rakes up issue of Haridwar's Gurdwara Gian Godri

Wednesday, 10 May 2017 | PNS | Chandigarh

Supporting Sikhs’ highest temporal seat Akal Takht’s decision for recitation of Japuji Sahib followed by ardaas to support efforts on reclaiming land and reconstruction of historic Gurdwara Gian Godri Sahib, Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Badal on Tuesday urged all party leaders and workers to comply with directive by participating in recitation of Japuji Sahib followed by ardaas on May 14 at 9 am in gurdwara near their houses.

“The feelings of Sikhs residing in every part of the world are linked to this historical place where Sikhs’ first master, Guru Nanak Dev, had visited on Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar, Uttrakhand. But, everybody is concerned over the fact that this Gurdwara was demolished in 1979 and Sikhs were not allowed to reconstruct it,” said Sukhbir.

He said that this is very emotive and serious issue for the Sikh community and its representative bodies — Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandhak Committee (SGPC) and Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management committee (DSGMC) — have jointly initiated efforts to get back the land and reconstruct it.

It is also proud moment for the Sikhs as Akal Takht Sahib has directly taken over the command for the cause on the request of both the institutions.

“SAD will wholeheartedly support and participate in this movement to reconstruct Gurdwara Sri Gian Godri Sahib and perform its duty to take up the issue with the government and whichever platform it is needed,” he added.
