Sainik School Kapurthala, run by Ministry of Defence, has contributed more than 1100 army officers, including 50 officers risen to the rank of lt. Generals and Major Generals to the armed forces since its inception in 1961, School Principal Col. Vikas Mohan said.
Prominent among those who stole the lime light in the country is the then Director General of Military Operations lt. General Ranbir Singh, a cadet of this school who led the operation of surgical strike against Pakistan a few months ago is now the core commander of one of the important core battalion of Indian Army. Besides this, lt. General Satinder Singh, lt. General Iqrup Singh, Major General Balwinder Singh Cheema, Major General Gajinder Singh, Major General Sarbjit Singh are the alumnus of this school.
On the sideline of the 56th annual athletic meet of the school, Col Vikas Mohan said that 22 cadets of the school have just passed the written examination of NDA taken by UPSC and would now face the interview board for their final selection in the NDA. He said four cadets of the school had joined the armed forces this year.
Patiala range DIG, Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill, a cadet of this school was specially invited to inaugurate the three day athletic meet on Friday last and Jalandhar range IG Arpit Shukla presided over the function closing ceremony of the athletic meet. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Tayab gave away the prizes to the winners.
The Principal claimed that the cadets who have not joined the armed forces also excelled in the other fields. Patiala range DIG Dr Sukhcain Singh Gill , former Advocate General HS Mattewal and many prominent doctors are the alumni of this school.
Highlighting the achievements of the school, Col Vikas Mohan said the school band was participating in the republic day parade for the past more than 15 years and was always adjudged as best band in the school category for the past so many years.
