Jamia Millia Islamia on Thursday withhold its eviction order issued to two Kashmiri hostel inmates who had earlier written a complaint to Vice-Chancellor Talat Ahmad over serving of alleged sub-standard food in the mess after students agreed to apologise.
The issue dates back to November when three Kashmiri students alleged of being served half cooked chicken dish with blood oozing from it. Though the administration claimed that the issue was resolved on that night itself, the students not satisfied went ahead to file a complaint by getting signatures of some other hostel inmates.
later on, they were issued show-cause notices for “misconduct” and taking “forged” signatures and asked to explain why they should not be evicted from the hostel.
The administration alleged that the students were politicsing the issue and threatening to sit on protest if their demands were not met.
However, one student apologised earlier to the university authorities following which the officials withdrew the notice. The two students were adamant and hence actions were taken against them, said the officials, adding after the protest on the campus an enquiry committee was formed to look into the matter.
Sources said the matter was resolved on Thursday after the two Kashmiri students agreed to tender apology to the authorities. In the letter to the V-C, the students wrote, “Uncooked food was served. Sometimes, the food had traces of blood in it…”
