More than 36 hours after very severe cyclonic storm Titli crossed the coast leaving a trail of massive destruction hundreds of villages in the worst hit Srikakulam district remained under flood water and cut off from Outside world. With as many as 7000 electricity poles uprooted by the powerful winds the region was in darkness with residents marooned in several feet of water.
Thousands of trees fell down and roads were extensively damaged leaving people stranded.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu visited the worst affected areas in Vajrapukottur and Uddanam and spoke to the victims of the cyclone. “I am with you. I will ensure that you get all the necessary relief and help to overcome this calamity”, he told the villagers at Akkupally village.
He said efforts were being expedited to restore power and relief work was on in 194 villages. He announced that he will remain at Palasa to supervise the relief work.
Naidu announced that each affected family will be given 50 kgs of rice and other essential items as immediate relief. He also held a teleconference with the officials from Srikakulam district headquarter and asked them to work on war footing to help the victims of one of the worst natural calamities. He wanted a sub collector to be made in charge of relief in each mandal for effective coordination among all the department.
