Mutthi mein kuchch sapne lekar,

bharkar jebon mein aashaiyen,

dil mein hain armaan yahin,

kuchch kar jayein, kuchch kar jayein.

Sooraj sa teez nahin mujhmein,

deepak sa jalta dekhogey,

apni haad roshan karne se

tum mujhko kabtak rokogey

Recites the legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan as he raises the curtain of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) Season 10 that is going on air from tonight September 2 at 9pm on Sony Entertainment Television. Themed around the campaign Kab Tak Rokogey, KBC is going to be tougher, bigger and better this season.

“The poetry is brilliantly written by Vikas Bansal and depicts  the efforts and feelings of the common man who never gives up and faces obstacles as they reach their goal. It pushes you forward and makes you a little aggressive towards your approach in life in achieving your dreams and aspirations,” host of the show Big B says.

Calling Amitabh Bachchan as the Brahmastra of the show, Siddharth Basu, consultant, Big Synergy, says: “Amitabh Bachchan engages with the show like no one else. He is truly one in a billion. He again brings his magnificent vibrance and brilliance to the show.”

But KBC is not just about star power but the common man who is the real hero of the show. “Their human stories unfolding along with the game of knowledge is its USP. This show touches lives, hearts and minds of people. It is interesting to see how contestant, despite huge number of opposition and hindrances, makes it to the hot seat and amaze everyone by their performance. It is equally depressing to see someone spending 10-15 years preparing for KBC and then make a mistake and lose a lot of money.” Big B says.

This year, the show received the highest ever, record-breaking registrations of over 31 million within a span of 15 days. The show has a very tight selection process. “The level of education and knowledge quotient has gone up and so is the selection criterion. You will get to see more of Masters and PhD students, scholars and professionals from all walks of life. They were questioned according to their level of knowledge. There will be retired general manager of Reserve Bank of India, Squadron leader, and many others,” Basu says.

Recalling a contestant’s story, who made it to the hot seat this year, Big B says: “There was one woman who was not from a well to do family. She wanted to study but her father, who was a hawker, didn’t have the money to educate her further. She aspires to do PhD and even took up a job of bus conductor to earn money to pay her fee. She made it to the hot seat and won. Her story is very moving.”

last year, the theme of Nai Chah Nai Rah brought the changemakers to the hot seat instead of celebrities to play for a cause which received very good response from the audience. This time too, the show has introduced KBC Karamveer every Friday which will bring the changemakers to play the game and also showcase their work

“last year we had Sonam Wagchuk, Kailash Satyarthi, Afroz Shah and many others. This time, we have Dr Prakash and Mandakini Amte who have been working in remote tribal belts for 40 years bringing a change in the lives of tribals. We had a young man in his late 20s who started a Robinhood Army. His volunteers collect foods from restaurants, hotels and other places to feed the needy every day. There is no lack of food, but lack of opportunity to find excess food. We honour such people every Friday,” Bachchan says.

Talking about his experience hosting the show, Big B says: “I am extremely privileged to host KBC. I try to build a personal connect with the people. I feel bad when the audience sits and waits for the show to start. I feel that they might be sitting for a very long time and might be hungry as well. Also, when the contestant is playing the game, I try to make sure that they are focussed on the game. I feel happy when they win a lot of money. On KBC sets, I say and do what I feel like and that is why it is a special show for me.”

It has become first-of-its-kind TV show that has brought augmented reality technology to transform the stage to give you a grand experience. “A lot of time and investment has gone into bringing augmented reality (AR). There is Dhanalya in place of Dhanvriksh depicting different stages of the game and Ghadi Badi (clock) too is showcased on the stage through AR technology.

Though there are many shows that gives the platform to the common man to showcase their talent, KBC standout amongst all. “I don’t believe we have another knowledge-based show like KBC which unfolds the story of a common man and show how their knowledge brings them victory. The knowledge aspect needs to be raised, especially in the times of search engine where everything is available in a click of a button. It is a two way sword because with sloppy information, deliberate propaganda, misinformation and fake news that is out there, how to get the right and reliable thing is very important. How to ask the right question so that the viewer too can connect. That is one of the few show which whole family watched together. The empathy factor which Mr Bachchan draws beautifully on the show goes hand in hand with knowledge,” Basu says.
