‘Odias are purchased presstitutes, paid outragers’

Friday, 21 September 2018 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

Abhijit Iyer Mitra, New-Delhi based journalist and friend of former Kendrapada MP Baijayant Panda, has invited ire of Odias for making repeated derogatory remarks on the Konark Sun Temple, the Shree Jagannath Temple and the Odia community.

In a video uploaded on the social media on the Konark temple, Mitra said, “I am in the famous Konark Temple premises. This is not a temple but a humple where people are humping. See these sculptures. Women with women, men with animals. Can this be a holy place? Not at all. This is a conspiracy against Hindus by Muslims who want to keep us down. Jai Sriram. In our new Ram temple, such obscene sculptures will not be there.”

Similarly, in a tweet on November 16, 2017, he wrote: “Odisha was discovered by Bengali explorers, who called it “OriShala!!! And it was named Orissa”.

He also claimed that the Jagannath Temple was built by the Gangas, who were disgraced Pallava Tamil retainers. “No such thing as Orissa, just the wild southern provinces of undivided Bengal,” Mitra had tweeted.

Even as his remarks on Odisha’s monuments and cultures triggered a furor, instead of being apologetic, he further tweeted on September 18, “Dear purchased presstitutes and paid “outragers” in Odisha! I don’t mind you burning my effigies, but at least use some nice saucy pics of me please. Unlike your pathetic English or your retard level cognitive abilities, my aesthetic sensibilities are quite refined,”

Again on September 19 in a tweet he said, “The joys of having the “Odia Pride” brigade come after me and the Odisha Assembly ruckus over my remarks, controlled by a guy @Naveen_Odisha @CMO_Odisha who doesn’t even know Odia and has to have his speeches transliterated in English.”

“Well, your CM is a mix breed too and can’t speak Odia and seems to know even less do Odisha than me. What’re you complaining about?”, he further tweeted.
