‘Publish widely criminal antecedents of candidates’

Friday, 19 October 2018 | Staff Reporter | Raipur

The Election Commission of India and office of Chief Electoral Officer has again issued directives to all the political parties to publish the details of criminal cases pending against their poll candidates.

Chhattisgarh is going to witness two phased polling next month.

As per the directive, the criminal record has to be published in three different dates, from the day following the last date for withdrawal of candidature and up to two days before the date of poll. Political parties have to put the C-2 format in their websites also.

Candidates have to fill up the form as provided by the Election Commission and should be written in bold letters, with regard to the criminal cases pending against the candidates.

The candidate contesting an election on party ticket has to inform the party about the criminal cases pending against him/her.

The candidate and the concerned political party shall issue a declaration in the widely circulated newspapers in the locality about the antecedents of the candidate and also give wide publicity in the electronic media, at least thrice after filing of the nomination papers.
