“My decision to join politics was not taken on the spur of the moment. Nor it was overfilled with an instant surge of emotion. It was given good thought and had mulled over the decision of mine. It came after going through suggestions of intellectuals,” said former scribe Ruchir Garg, after his return to Raipur from New Delhi on Sunday. He the other day joined the Congress before the All India Congress Committee president Rahul Gandhi at New Delhi.
Addressing a press conference here at the State Congress office, Rajiv Bhawan, Ruchir said he was feeling suffocated in the field of journalism after remaining nonaligned.
He said he was close to the ideology of Congress which instead of divisive politics, stood for maintaining unity, harmony and integration, he said.
Ruchir further expressed his apprehension on state of affairs in country. Democracy, constitution, national integrity and religious harmony are under threat nowadays. “I found that Congress has stood firm to oppose the same,” he told. Talking about his possible role in the party, he further said he will work in the organization as a field worker. He will perform duties as assigned by the party. Regarding fielding him as a candidate in the upcoming assembly polls he said, “I am bound to follow all the instructions as directed by the High Command”.
