Dengue is witnessing a spurt with 16 new cases of the disease being reported by the district health authorities of Dehradun on Monday. The district vector-borne diseases officer Subhash Joshi said that six patients out of 16 cases reported on the day after Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay ( ELISA) test are residents of Dehradun district while the remaining ten are from the districts of Tehri, Haridwar and Saharanpur.
He, further, said that the number of dengue-afflicted persons in Dehradun district this season has mounted up to 35 so far. Joshi claimed that the health department is on an alert mode on the disease and the ASHA workers are engaged in door to door survey for source reduction of Aedes mosquito, responsible for the dreaded disease.
He, further, said that the people should not allow water to collect at and near their homes to prevent breeding of the mosquito.
Joshi added that the Aedes, the vector of dengue, tending to bite during the day time, one should wear full- sleeved clothes to reduce the exposure to mosquito bite.
