The Congress party received a setback in Dehradun after its former city chief Prithviraj Chauhan and its city Vyapar Mandal chief Pankaj Masson joined the Bharatiya Janata Party along with a number of supporters here on Friday.
They were welcomed into the party by the BJP state president Ajay Bhatt, chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and other party leaders.
Speaking on the occasion, Chauhan said that he had decided to join the BJP on being impressed by the works and commitment of prime minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat.
“Like the PM is striving to take the nation forward, the CM is working hard to take the state forward. The zero tolerance for corruption in Uttarakhand and developmental efforts here made me opt for the BJP,” he said.
The BJP state president Ajay Bhatt said that Chauhan’s decision was based on the stern stance against corruption and facilitation of developmental works in Uttarakhand under chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat.
He exhorted party workers to focus on ensuring a victory for the party’s Dehradun mayoral candidate Sunil Uniiyal Gama.
Speaking on the occasion, the CM appreciated the decision of those who had put their faith in the BJP and joined the party.
This will certainly boost the strength of the party in the current urban local body elections, he said.
Gama also expressed his views on the occasion. Minister of State, Dhan Singh Rawat and other leaders of the party were also present on the occasion.
