With the arrest of a bootlegger from Dwarka’s Najafgarh area, the Delhi Police has recovered 205 cartons containing 9,804 quarters of illicit liquor, for sale in Arunachal Pradesh only.
According to Police, the accused was identified as 36-year-old Sonu, who disclosed that he was being paid Rs 1000 per day to transport the liquor from Bahadurgarh to Delhi.
He was arrested on Monday afternoon, during picketing by Baba Hari Das Nagar police staff led by Station House Officer (SHO) Suresh Kumar, police said.
“One Ashok Leyland pickup van was stopped at around 1:30 pm and checked. During checking it was found that the van was filled with illicit liquor which was to be supplied in Khayala area in west Delhi,” said the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse.
During interrogation, Sonu told police that he was looking for employment in Delhi and came in contact with his employer through his friends. He alleged that he arrived in Delhi only 10 days ago and was staying in a rented accommodation in Khayala, police said.
On checking the Pickup, 205 Cartons containing 9840 Quarters of illicit liquor was found loaded in the van.
