41 test positive for dengue in Gwalior

Friday, 21 September 2018 | PNS | Gwalior

The threat of the deadly dengue is looming large over Gwalior as 41 persons have been tested positive for this disease in the DD Nagar area of the city today.

The Pinto Park area too comes under the danger zone as 10 more patients were tested positive from this region. The total number of dengue afflicted persons in the city during the last few days has risen to 112 which is an all-time high.

As the medical teams continue their surveys and anti-dengue drives in the danger zones to check this menace, the number of afflicted patients is climbing alarmingly. Despite the disease causing a major panic last year, and despite its alarming outbreak this year the repeated pleas of the public to the civic body to fumigate their areas seem to have gone in vain. Most of the residential areas in the city are surrounded by large vacant sites and huge patches of stagnant water as a result of the heavy monsoon this year. The water stagnation coupled with zero fogging has created suitable breeding grounds for the mosquitoes that transmit this disease.

If the Gwalior Municipal Corporation doesn’t initiate immediate actions, the city and its surrounding areas will soon be heading for mayhem.

Another big worry is the shortage of platelets in almost all the leading hospitals in the city including the JAH and GRMC. The significant jump in the dengue positive cases and the acute shortage of platelets which is needed for the treatment of this fatal disease is giving anxious moments to the authorities as well as the patients and their relatives.

According to the medical experts of the city, the demand for platelets has almost doubled and the hospitals in the city are powerless to meet the surge in the demand.

Speaking to the media persons, Manoj Kumar Patidhar, the officer in charge of malaria said that as many houses in the DD Nagar area are lying vacant, mosquito inspection at every house is not possible. He added that his teams have been surveying the houses and open spaces to detect the presence of artificial breeding centers of the mosquitoes.

Satypal Singh Chauhan, the Health Officer at the Municipal Corporation said that double fogging will be done at the danger zone areas. He added that the corporation is taking all steps to check the disease.
