The Tansen Samaroh is held every year in Gwalior to pay tribute to one of the greatest artists in the history of India, Tansen, who is also known as the magical musician.

Tansen was one among the nine gems in the court of Akbar The Great, arguably the greatest Mughal Emperor.

This year, the five days melodic event, jointly organized by the Ustad Allahudeen Khan Sangeet, Kala Academy and the Madhya Pradesh Cultural Council on behalf of Government of Madhya Pradesh is scheduled to begin on the 24th of this month.

According to sources in the organizing committee of the programme, Kamal Nath, the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh is scheduled to inaugurate the music festival on December 24.

The festival will begin at the INTUC Stadium, Hajira on December 24.

After the formal inauguration a sub-classical musical event named Ghamak will be held in the evening.

A total of nine musical events will be held in this year‘s festival, out of which seven will be held at Behat village in front of the Tansen Tomb which was built in the Mughal architectural style and which is currently part of the cultural heritage of Gwalior.

The concluding events will be held at the Gujari Mahal, situated inside the Gwalior Fort. It was in this palace, Mriganayani, the wife of Man Singh, who himself was a patron of art and music took lessons from the great Tansen.

Over the years the event has grown into an international music celebration attracting artists from all over the world. As in the earlier years, this year also the best of the artists from around the world are expected to perform various musical events in front of music lovers. One of the most prestigious prizes in Indian classical music - the Rashtriya Tansen Samman is awarded to the best musician at the festival.
