In a yet another recovery of gold bars this month, a 53-year-old woman was arrested by customs officials at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country 900 grams gold by hiding it in her rectum.
According to customs official, we have intercepted one Indian passenger while on her arrival from Bangkok on Monday at IGI terminal-3. “During her personal search resulted in recovery of two pieces of gold, crudely given a cylindrical shape, from her rectum, total weighing 900 grams which have market value of Rs 27.54 lakh,” said the custom official.
“The passenger has been arrested under Section 104 of the Custom Act. We have seized the gold. She also admitted to have smuggled 700 grams gold valued at Rs 21.42 lakh in the past. Further investigation is going on,” said the custom official.
Earlier on September 12, a 24 year-old man was arrested by the Customs department at the IGI here for allegedly trying to smuggle in one kg gold by hiding it in his rectum. The passenger was intercepted upon his arrival from Dubai. On detailed baggage examination and personal search, it was discovered that the accused had hidden nine gold bars, weighing 1.04 kg, inside his rectum which valued around Rs 32 lakh.
