Friday, 14 December 2018 | PNS | Ranchi

The student wing of ruling Bhartiya Janata Party-Akhil Bhartiy Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) bagged all five seats in Student Union indirect poll of Ranchi University on Thursday.  The indirect election for the academic season 2018-19 came to an end as overall 57 per cent voters cast their votes.

ABVP candidate for the post of President Neha Mardi clinched 44 votes out of 46 votes and won the presidential seat.

The Vice President candidate of ABVP-Kunal Kumar Sharma also got 44 votes out of 46 votes and the candidate for the Secretary post-Saurabh Bose got 45 votes out 45 votes while for the post of Joint Secretary the ABVP candidate Saurabh Kumar bagged 44 votes out of 45 votes and Ankit Ranjan got 44 votes out of 46 votes.

Altogether 11 candidates of the three students unions were in the fray. Interestingly, for the post of president, there was a trilateral fight among the candidates of ABVP and two segments Adivasi Chhatra Sangh (ACS).

The ACS members staged a protest in the beginning alleging that the ABVP had kidnapped their voters but were later pacified by police. In some colleges including PPK College Bundu, RLSY Ranchi and BS College, Lohardaga no voter turned out to cast vote, while in BN Jalan College, Sisai; Simdega College, Simdega and Birsa College; Khunti only one voter came to cast his vote.

At the end of the polls RU VC Ramesh Kumar Pandey handed over certificates to the winning candidates.

The ABVP thanked all the voters and assured them that the union will try to fulfill its promises mentioned in the manifesto. The union stated that it got votes from tribal majority areas like Gumla, Simdega and Khunti. And, because of this the union remained successful in creating nationalist mentality among students, it said.

While congratulating the successful candidates ABVP Secretary Yagyavalkya Shukla said, “The results show our acceptability among the youths. The students of RU have expressed their faith on ABVP. We have worked for the betterment of the students and will do it in future also. The student union is committed to provide student friendly environment in the State.”

He dedicated the victory to all students of Ranchi University who have worked for the union for years.
