The Lalkuan police and local intelligence unit (LIU) personnel were surprised while conducting a verification drive when two men candidly informed them that they were from Kabul, Afghanistan.

The duo was selling herbs when they were questioned about their identity. After ascertaining that they were from Afghanistan, the police took them into custody and directed them to leave the country for violation of visa regulations.

According to information provided by sources, the Kotwali sub inspector Chandrashekhar Joshi was conducting a verification drive in Sanjaynagar- Hathikhana area on Sunday morning. He came across two men selling herbs to the locals. When he asked them for identification documents, they informed him that they were from Afghanistan and were in India on tourist visas.

The Kotwali police called the local intelligence unit personnel to the spot. The intelligence personnel took the duo into custody and questioned them.

The two Afghan citizens informed the intelligence personnel that they had arrived in India from Afghanistan on October 8 on tourist visas. They had been staying at a hotel in Haldwani.
