AIMPLB playing second fiddle to Cong: Rizvi

Wednesday, 19 December 2018 | PNS | Lucknow

Uttar Pradesh Shia Central Waqf Board chairman Waseem Rizvi alleged on Tuesday that clerics of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) had turned puppets in the hands of the Congress and hence were opposing any move to solve the vexed Ayodhya issue at the earliest.

“The recently held AIMPLB executive meeting in Lucknow rejected the offer of Shia Waqf Board on Ram temple and the construction of an alternative mosque in Lucknow. This shows that AIMPLB clerics are dancing to the tune of the Congress to oppose Ram temple. One should not forget that AIMPLB was formed by Congress in 1971 to serve its political ends,” Rizvi said.

In a statement issued in Lucknow on Tuesday, Rizvi alleged that the AIMPLB comprised hardliners among Sunni Muslims and their actions were against the interests of the entire community. “In the past too, AIMPLB had refused to accept several court decisions. They are now saying that they will only accept a court verdict on Ram temple. But it is just an eyewash in view of their past conduct. They will work out an alibi and never accept the Supreme Court verdict on Ayodhya issue,’’ said Rizvi.

The Shia Waqf Board chairman said that a month back, Shia Waqf Board sent a proposal to AIMPLB for the construction of Ram temple and construction of Masjid-e-Aman in Lucknow, which the AIMPLB rejected. Now Shia Waqf Board will not send any proposal in future about Ram temple.
