The recovery of the body of a Bajrang Dal leader created tension in Mahoba on Wednesday while in Shamli, unidentified miscreants opened fire at policemen and looted their weapons in the late hours of Tuesday.

Deputy superintendent of police in Mahoba, Jitendra Dubey, told local media persons that the mutilated body of Subhash Nagar ward co-ordinator of Bajrang Dal, Rahul Verma, who was missing from his home since afternoon, was recovered from Vijay Sagar road on Tuesday night.

As the news of recovery of Verma’s body spread, Bajrang Dal activists created a ruckus at the hospital where autopsy was being conducted.

The DySP said that the motive behind the murder was not known but the family members had lodged an FIR naming five youths of Kanshi Ram Colony. The FIR said that Rahul had a dispute with these youths three days back.

Police are investigating the case.

A large police force has been deployed in the city to avert any violence.

In Shamli, two miscreants riding a motorcycle opened fire at police personnel, injuring one of them seriously, and looted two service rifles from them on Bidoli road in Jhinjhana police station area late on Tuesday night.

Circle officer Rajesh Kumar Tiwari said that home guard Sanjay and constable Sansar Singh were near Kamalpur check-post where they intercepted the miscreants riding a motorcycle. However, the duo opened fire at the cops and sped off with their rifles.

Home guard Sanjay was injured in the attack and was rushed to hospital in a serious condition.

On being informed, senior police officers rushed to the spot and launched a hunt for the miscreants but it failed to yield the desired results.

A case was registered and investigations are on.
