POver 300 villagers, including women, men and children, of Kuspangi village under Banki police station area gheraoed the Banki police station and Sub-Collectorate on Sunday demanding making their village liquor-free.

As per their allegation, most of the male members of their village drink the liquor sold illegally in the nearby areas of their village with the knowledge of the Excise and police officials of the area and making the environment polluted by losing their money and developing health hazards.

Earlier, the villagers protested before the concerned authorities regarding the same but it was futile.

Sarpanch Puspalata Jena has said that she had assured the electorates to make Kuspangi liquor-free at least two years ago but it has not been done so till now due to noncooperation of the administration.

This time, the villagers, including the Sarpanch, have given the administration October 2 as the ultimatum to shut down these illegal liquor shops from their area failing which they would take to streets and block the Banki-Cuttack State Highway near their village.
