Bhagwat likely to meet Modi in Varanasi

Monday, 12 November 2018 | PNS | Lucknow

It is probably the first time that Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in Varanasi on the same day on Monday, and they are likely to have a brief meeting against the backdrop of 2019 Lok Sabha election with focus on Ram Mandir.

Bhagwat has already arrived in the temple city while Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be arriving on Monday.

The Prime Minister is slated to inaugurate the Ring Road and the Babatpur airport road in Varanasi besides dedicating to the nation the Inland Waterways Terminal on river Ganga.

The RSS will be holding a six-day meeting in Varanasi from November 11 to November 16. Bhagwat will be in Koirajpur to discuss the RSS ideology and nationalism with workers of the organisation. The issues of Ram temple and Lok Sabha poll will also be discussed.

RSS workers from six states along with senior leaders of the organisation will be attending the meet.

“This is a chance that Modi and Bhagwat will be in Varanasi together for a few hours on Monday. There is all likelihood that the RSS chief and the PM may have a brief meeting,” a senior RSS leader said.

“The meeting will be symbolic so as to send a message across the eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar that Prime Minister enjoys the backing of the RSS,” he said.

Varanasi has been the fulcrum of political activities in eastern UP and Bihar. The message from Kashi has far-reaching significance and therefore the backroom managers of RSS and Bharatiya Janata Party are trying for a brief meeting between Modi and Bhagwat. They also wants to make it a photo-op.

Security has been tightened in the city in view of both the programmes while Special Protection Group has taken over the security of the venues to be visited by the Prime Minister.
