The BJP on Wednesday said the BJD Government would also fall in the stream of ‘mood of the nation’, as stated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik referring to election results of five States announced on Tuesday, because it has failed to provide support to farmers during the last 19 years.
“About 70 per cent of people are dependent on agriculture in the State. The Naveen Patnaik Government has done little for the sector. Hence, farmer families will push out the Government in 2019 elections,” said BJP spokesperson Golak Mohapatra.
Mohapatra alleged that farmers have been deprived of irrigation facilities, interest-free loans and subsidized seeds, fertilizers and insecticides. Farmers are not getting due prices for their vegetables due to lack of cold storages. Without getting support from the State Government, farmers are committing suicide and many others are going outside to earn living, he alleged.
He too slammed the State Congress leaders for being happy over the election results saying that voters have already discarded the Congress in Odisha. Bijepur and Bijatola elections have proved it, he said.
Stating that highest numbers of farmers had committed suicide during Congress rules in the country, Mohaptra said the Narendra Modi Government has introduced many programmes to support peasants.
