After a successful bike rally that brought Lucknow’s chaotic traffic to a grinding halt, the Uttar Pradesh unit of Bharatiya Janata Party is set to embark on a fortnight-long ‘padyatra’ from December 1 to propagate the good works being done by the Narendra Modi and Yogi Adityanath governments.
A decision in this regard was taken at an organisational meeting held in Lucknow on Monday.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, BJP state chief Mahendra Nath Pandey disclosed that after Kamal Sandesh Bike Rally, it has been decided to take out a padyatra across the state on the 150th birth anniversary year of Mahatma Gandhi from December 1 to 15.
:The padyatras will be taken out in all the 403 Assembly constituencies. Six groups comprising 25 members of the party will take out the padyatra and cover a minimum of 150 kilometres in each Assembly constituency. The elected members and party’s office-bearers and workers will participate in the padyatra,” Pandey said.
The BJP state president said that preparatory meetings for the padyatra would be held at local level.
The meeting for Awadh region will be held on November 21, of Kanpur and Kashi regions on November 22, Gorakhpur and west UP regions on November 23 and of Braj region on November 24. After these, meetings will be held at Assembly level on November 26 and 28.
“During the padyatra, the party workers will contact people and make them aware of the policies of both the Central and the state governments. If possible, they will also try to redress problems of the masses,” Pandey said.
In the meeting, which was also attended by party’s organisational secretary Sunil Bansal, it was decided to organise caste-based meetings. The BJP’s Scheduled Castes Cell will organise Samajik Pratinidhi meetings from November 21 to 30. Similar meetings of Backward Cell members will also be held.
