The State Government has made it mandatory for the registered sonologists performing ultrasounds to clear a Competency Based Evaluation Test (CBET).
A decision on the matter was taken at a meeting held to discuss implementation of Pre Conception and Pre Natal Diagnostic Act (PC- PNDT) Act- 1994 at the state health directorate on Monday. In course of the meeting, a strategy was devised for CBET implementation in the state.
It was decided that the sonologists working in any government or private hospital or clinic and using ultra sound machine to perform sonography of Abdomenio-pelvic region of women should clear the CBET.
The examination would be taken at the Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Medical Education University and the medical education department would be accountable for the entire process.
The registrar and controller examination of the university Vijay Juyal said that examination would be held in January 2019 and the result would be declared in a week upon completion of the examination.
The CBET would have two papers, a written test followed by practical examination. Juyal clarified that the candidates who would clear the written examination would be eligible for the practical examination. He further said that the university would issue notification for the examination later this month.
Informing about CBET, additional director, Saroj Naithani said that the cardiology and eye hospitals of the state have been exempted from the examination.
She, however, added that such hospitals would have to submit an undertaking that they would follow rules and regulations of PCPNDT Act.
The meeting was attended by the director Medical Health Amita Upreti and director National Health Mission Anjali Nautiyal among others.
