Civic bodies step up measures to control pollution

Concerned over alarming pollution level in the city, all three municipal corporations have stepped up measures to control dust pollution by deploying more tankers for water sprinkling. All the officials of the regarding zones have also been instructed to keep conducting a check on violations related to construction and demolitions, a senior corporation official informed.

A senior EDMC official said it deployed 245 tankers in the last one week as part of emergency measures to combat dust pollution. “All these tankers sprinkled water on various roads to settle down dust. More than 240 roads have been covered and the process will be continuing,” he said.

The east corporation also issued challans in areas of sanitation, garbage burning solid waste management and building construction. A total of 33425 challans have been issued till date this year in all these areas, he said. The North Corporation has also 1188 challans in the last two months and collected Rs 29, 34, 900 as fine. Further, Rajesh Lawadia himself sprinkled water in roads in Karol Bagh area.

Meanwhile, as part of measures to control pollution, the building department of municipal corporations has increased the frequency of mechanised cleaning of roads.

The SDMC Commissioner had also chaired a high-level meeting last week to chalk out an action plan to overcome the situation and instructed the officers of all zones to take appropriate action against the violators.  The civic body issued 106 challans in last 17 days in all four zones and collected Rs 1, 12,900 as fine for different violations of norms laid down by National Green Tribunal (NGT) .

The SDMC official also informed that challans were also issued for using plastic and collected Rs 1, 50,000 as fine.
